Lions versus University of Northampton 1st After the disappointing loss at Nottingham, the Lions had two weeks to prepare for their first home game of the season against the Northampton University 1st team. Exploding to a first quarter lead of 25-2 through steals from Takuma Goto and the scoring efforts of Hugo Drochon and Stuart Lee, the Lions showed great composure and determination. However, Northampton did not make it easy for the Lions, fighting back in the second and third quarter to draw within 6 points. But the Cambridge team were not to be denied the win, with Andrew Northern rebounding strongly and Owen Weller controlling the ball well in the closing stages. Cambridge won the game 64-55, and was encouraged by the overall performance of the team as well as pleasing displays from many new players. The Lions will play next week at Oxford Brookes.

Match Report: Warwick 1st

The Cambridge Blues started off against Warwick with a fast-paced offence that capitalised on well-executed fast breaks. Warwick mounted an equally impressive offensive in the first quarter and held the lead by five points after ten minutes of play.

Following Blues substitutions, a trapping defence by Warwick extended the lead to 13 at the half. The Blues battled back in the third quarter thanks to several inside buckets from centre Hugo Halferty. At the end of the quarter, guard Atticus Honore brought the lead to within three points with a lay-up over Warwick's centre. Several three pointers from guard Sunith de Fonseka also contributed to the Blues comeback. The fourth quarter ended with a tie and the game entered overtime. Warwick quickly assumed a 5 point lead, but the Blues battled back to bring the game within one.

With 12 seconds left on the clock, guard Chris Bohn missed a 12 foot jumper. The put-back also rattled out. The game ended with a Warwick victory, 87 to 86.

Match Report: Nottingham 2nd The Lions opened their regular season BUSA play with an away fixture against Nottingham 2nd team. Travelling with only seven players (four of whom were making their first appearance in the BUSA league) the Lions knew that knew that they faced difficult opponents in a Nottingham team who recently defeated Oxford Brookes. The Lions started well with a tenacious rebounding performance from Andrew Northern, and good pressure defence from Takuma Goto. A spirited performance resulted in the Lions leading by 6 points at the half. The second half saw a Nottingham come back against a fatigued Lions side. Despite a strong offensive effort from Stuart Lee who led all scorers with a game high 24 points, Nottingham stepped up the defence pressure, denying the Lions anytime to move the ball on offence and forcing bad shots. The game finished 51-36 to Nottingham. Although the Lions were disappointed by the final result, the team took many positives from the fixture including strong performances from newcomers Olaf Schreiber and Vignaesh Sivakumar. The Lions look to bounce back on November 7th, with an away fixture against Northampton.
